Happy’s Portfolio

A Change of Heart

Biography: My name is Happy Patel and I am a dual enrollment student. Coming into this class, I had no expectations that this class would change anything. As a rising junior, I have never been interested in writing a single day. Over the course of this class, my perspective of writing started to change. Through three challenging essays, I began to appreciate and have fun in my writing while also being critical. This class has taught me new things and shaped me into the writer that I thought I never would have become.

My Writer’s note: This assignment has been a challenging task to overcome. This portfolio required me to represent my work of this semester in a descriptive and imaginative way. I hope that my portfolio can be a useful tool to look back on for my future essays and writings. I never liked to write any essay, but this portfolio has given me the motivation to continue producing quality essays. My first essay of this semester is about my personal memoir. It is about my life changing experience at youth camp. It shows my journey of hating every small detail at a camp I had doubts of going to, to being the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. My second essay was about a pop object that had a big influence in my life which is my phone like most other people these days. In this work, I expressed the idea how much power a device that can fit in your pocket had on me and possibly other people. I described how I used to use the phone for terrible things but eventually evolved into someone that uses his phone for betterment of everyone else around me. Finally, the last essay of this class was about a pop object supported by research. It is about a song called “Old Town Road” and how it has impacted music for the songs to come. As I reread my essays from this class, I saw improvement from my first to second essay but came to a halt on the third. I do not think I am ready yet for research papers, but I have improved. The themes I conveyed throughout all my essays and this portfolio is change or transformation. This is why I used pictures of worship and the phones. The worship represents God moving into my heart while the phones change from a cracked screen to an uncracked one to represent my change from bad to good. This semester has taught me I am going to be challenged and nothing is going to come easy in the future. My goal for writing is to improve with each essay or paper I write.
